This new chain drive system is designed to have less resistance and reduced wear. The chain is as wide as a belt in a belt drive system, but it lasts up to 3 times longer than a belt and is much more affordable (a belt drive on the STÆRK tandem would cost around 1000 euros). The special tooth shape on the gears ensures that the tandem is "engaged" by the chain rather than the chain sliding along it. This makes the system last longer and run smoother, up to 8 times longer than a regular chain.
This is why STÆRK offers this chain as an option on models with Bosch mid-motors and Rohloff hubs. The chain is the most heavily stressed component in these models (powerful motor and two people exerting force). This chain cannot be chosen in combination with a derailleur.
